Our team, group 10 is going to deal with Brazil World Cup. Brazil World Cup is going to start next month, 13th June, 2014. It is 9th World Cup that Korea participate in in Korean soccer history. Korea has a number of soccer fans and they are looking forward to the World Cup. A few weeks ago, the entry for Brazil World Cup came out and many soccer fans complained of it. It shows how interested  Korean soccer fans are in Brazil World Cup. In 2002, Korean national soccer team made it to semi-final in 2002 Korean and Japanese World Cup. It made the whole country crazy. Korean soccer fans are still expecting that Korean national soccer team will win the World Cup someday. Therefore, We decided to do the survey and interview the soccer fans in the campus. We are planning to ask them which team they expect to win the World Cup and what the result the Korean national soccer team will get. To carry out the survey successfully, we will visit the playground in the campus when a soccer match is undergoing. At the end of the match, we will have interview with players at the playground.  At the end of project, I will add my narration to the video to finish the project.

Five images

This is a photo of the night view of the capital city Seoul in Korea. There was the Korean war about 50 years ago. Most of the buildings were destroyed and many people were killed. It seemed like there was no hope in the country. Since the Korean war, Korea has been growing up remarkably and became one of the power in Asia. Nobody expected that Korea would be developed as it is today. We call it 'Miracle of Han river'.

A few decades ago, Korea was governed by a dictatorial government. The president , Doo hwan Jeon, was very cruel and stubborn. When there was a demonstration against the government asking for freedom in the city of Gwangju, the government sent a troop to suppress the nation and many people were killed. It took place in my hometown and many people still remember the days under the dictatorial government.

In 2002, the Korea-Japan world cup took place. Everybody went out to cheer the Korean national soccer team. The Korean national soccer team finally moved up to semifinal and the country was full of excitement. All of people became one through the games.

There are many homeless pets in Korea. Are they just lost and the owners couldn't find them? No. They were just dumped from people who were once family and friends with them. People love small and cute puppies which lead them to get them. As it grows and needs more food and bigger house, People get much stress on it and dump them on the street. It is completely inhumane not to take care of their pets.

A tragedy took place a few days ago in Korea. A huge ferry running from Gyung-gi province to Jeju-island sank in the middle of south sea. The ferry was accommodating hundreds of students who were going on a school trip to Jeju-island. When the ferry lost its balance and started to lie on its side, the captain of the ferry and crew members escaped from the ferry. They didn't help passengers to get out of the ferry. They were arrested for not taking responsibilities. There are still many passengers who are estimated to be drown in the ferry and many rescuers are trying to get in and get them out of the ferry.

Topic : Sunlight energy

Audience : Energy consumers

Purpose : To remind energy consumers of the shortage of the amount of fossil fuel and urge them to try to replace it with sunlight energy.

<Energy import dependency>

<Energy use by source>

Evaluate the topic :

1. Description :

As the dust from the industrial areas in China flies across the ocean and blankets the cities in Korea, more and more people are getting interested in alternative energies. Sunlight energy is especially getting huge attention among many other alternative energies due to its endless energy source, Sun. The sun releases about 1021 Kcal of thermal energy a year and only 1/2,000,000,000 of it arrives in the earth. It is almost the same amount of energy as the total energy that is used for one year on the earth. To make use of the sunlight effectively as an energy, sunlight should be converted into electricity. This is done by using solar panels that are large panels consisting of plenty of individual solar cells.

2. Good points :

First, Sunlight is free to anyone. Fossil fuel is monopolized by some specific countries and they try to control the world. However, solar energy is available to any countries in the world. It can lead to energy equality, which can make the world more peaceful and rich.

Second, solar energy doesn't pollute the environment. We are undergoing serious climate disaster due to the abuse of
fossil fuel. Once solar energy is commercialized, it is expected that the degree of environmental pollution will remarkably decrease and it will lead to sustainable development throughout the world.

Third, solar energy can be used in remote areas. It's not easy to make electricity using fossil fuel in some areas in the world because of its geographical reasons or low level of development. With only solar panels and energy converters, sunlight can be harnessed as an energy.

3. Bad points :

First, solar energy depends too much on the weather. If the weather is not so good, the energy efficiency is very low, which means solar energy doesn't have marketability. It requires a high technology that collects sunlight very effectively regardless of the weather conditions.

Second, it's quite expensive to manufacture solar panels and cells. This is the main point that makes people hesitate to purchase the solar energy system device. What makes worse, it can cost much more money to maintain the system.

Third, the factory requires gigantic storage space. Solar energy system needs tons of  huge batteries to keep the electricity. It requires high costs of initial investment.

Expression :

1. Your overall opinion of the topic :

Although it's too early to commercialize sunlight energy, it has a bright prospect. Korea doesn't have any high-value resources such as oil and gas. It's a great opportunity for us to get in the foot in the new energy market earlier than other countries. To put off the great achievement in alternative energies, however, there are lots of barriers to get over and the market has to show its visible growth potential to the investors. These days, lots of Korean global corporations like LG chemical and Hanwha are working hard on it. Not to fall behind in the energy market, other Korean companies also need to invest large part of their budget in solar energy.

2. Your recommendation :

Even though it hasn't shown any impressive results, I'm pretty sure energy
consumers should keep their eyes on alternative energy, especially solar energy because we are facing serious energy  inequality and imbalance in this era. Commercializing alternative energy isn't accomplished without the efforts by consumers. Energy consumers also have to think over the seriousness of energy shortage and environmental contamination and focus on the situation of energy market.

To evaluate the movie 'the questionable girl'

The plot

- One old lady lives with her son and her son's family. As she gets older, her family considers getting her to live in a elderly welfare facilities. She gets frustrated by the fact that she is not productive any longer and she's just a burden to her family. Therefore, she decides to have her portrait taken in a photo studio. When a photographer snaps, she turns into a young girl and the studio disappears. With her great talent of singing, she becomes an main vocal in a wild band which consists of her grandson. One day, her grandson gets into a car accident and he needs special type of blood for surgery. For her surgery, she gives her blood to her grandson and she turns into an old lady again.

My review on the film

-The movie 'the questionable girl' was a big hit in box office at the beginning of this year. There were several reasons why people were hooked on the film.

first, the plot of the movie is very original. People who were sick and tired of non-creative movies saw the movie without any huge expectation and they were completely entertained with it. Also, the actors and the actresses in the movie were not so popular, which gave only a little expectation and made them totally satisfied. The movie was not promoted so much, but people who once saw the movie left great reviews on the movie rate website and it led to the big hit.

second, the acting of the main character 'EunKyong Sim' was fantastic. She wasn't so well-known actress in Korea ,but through the movie, she has been gaining a lot of popularity.

Third, there is a wonderful twist at the end of the movie. 'SuHyun Kim' who is gaining gigantic popularity through the soap opera 'The man from a star' appears all of a sudden. it's one of the funny points in the film which makes lots of female fans scream in the middle of the movie. I enjoyed the movie so much as well because i didn't even look up how funny the film is. i highly recommend people to watch it. you're never going to be bored.

Trip to Cuba

Trip to the country of CHE

If you're planning to go to Cuba, it won't be the wrong choice. However, you should keep in mind that Cuba is quite different country from other countries. Because Cuba is limited to import products overseas, people in the country are pretty poverty-stricken. Plus, if you're an Asian, it can be so irritating to walk around the cities in Cuba. That's because there are not many Asians in Cuba. When you're walking on the street, people would look at you like you're an animal in a zoo and they would try to talk with you. In that case, you don't need to be scared of them and run away. All you can do is just smile at them and ignore what they talk to you.

Important tips that you must know

  • [Curruncy]

In Cuba, there is a very weird policy regarding currency. Money that is used by local people is different from what is used by tourists. The former is called 'Moneda' which means coin in Spanish and the latter is called  'Cuk'. Rumor has is that tourists can't use Moneda, but it's not true. You can exchange Cuk into Moneda in money exchange shops or banks. What you need to be aware of is the value of money varies greatly depending on which kind of money it is. One Cuk is worth one dollar and 24 Monedas are worth one dollar. Most of Cuban people try to deceive tourists that  tourists should pay much more money for food and items. Such cheaters are the biggest problem during trip to Cuba.

  • [Flight]

If you're planning to buy only one-way flight ticket to Cuba and go to Cancun which is the nearest city in Mexico, there's a very high chance to get in trouble. In case that you already booked the flight from Cuba and Cancun and you didn't book any other flight, your flight to Cancun can be rejected. Mexico government requires flight ticket that proves you're leaving Mexico within the expiration duration. if you don't have it, Cuban airline won't let you board on the plane. Make sure that you have the confirmed flight schedule and documents that show it.

  • [Internet]

Cuba has the worst internet service in the world. there is only one hotel where you can use wifi service in Havana. what's worse, in order to use wifi, you need to pay eight dollars per an hour. You must keep in mind that the speed of internet is very slow.
